EVATON – A Community in Mourning

The Evaton community has been left reeling after the tragic discovery of the remains of two young women who had been reported missing late last year. The bodies of Nontokozo Mazibuko (25) and Andiswa Sontangane (25) were found along Randfontein Road, bringing a heartbreaking end to weeks of uncertainty and desperate searching by their families.
The discovery has sent shockwaves through the area, with residents struggling to come to terms with the brutal loss of two lives that held so much promise.
Last Seen in December 2025
According to information provided by family members, the two women were last seen in December 2025 at a soccer ground in Evaton. When they failed to return home and could no longer be reached on their phones, concern quickly turned into alarm.
Families immediately launched searches, alerted community leaders, and reported the matter to the police. Social media platforms were flooded with missing persons posters as loved ones appealed to the public for any information that could help locate the young women.
Despite these efforts, hope slowly faded as days turned into weeks.
Identification Brings Painful Closure
The remains discovered on Randfontein Road were later positively identified by their families, confirming their worst fears. While the identification has brought some form of closure, it has also deepened the grief for families who had been holding on to hope for a miracle.
“This is every parent’s nightmare,” said one community member. “They left home alive and never came back.”
Police Investigation Underway
Police have confirmed that an investigation is currently ongoing. At this stage, authorities have not released details regarding the cause of death or whether foul play is suspected, stating that forensic examinations and further investigations are still underway.
No arrests have been made yet, and police are urging anyone with information related to the women’s disappearance or the discovery of their remains to come forward.
Community Calls for Justice
The tragic deaths of Nontokozo Mazibuko and Andiswa Sontangane have once again highlighted growing concerns about the safety of women in South Africa. Community members and activists have called for swift justice and stronger measures to protect women and girls.
As families prepare to lay their loved ones to rest, the Evaton community continues to mourn, united in grief and demanding answers.
