Shoki Mmola was born in August 10th, 1977 and she will be turning 46 years this year.
The outstanding actress is well recognized for her role as Celia Kunutu in Skeem Saam, a popular SABC1 soapie. Celia, like many women who have gone through a lot, only wants to see her family succeed, even if she makes major blunders along the way.
Shoki, on the other hand, comes from a long line of actresses. She portrayed Grace Lerothodi in the SABC1 mini-series Death of a Queen, which aired from July to August 2008 as part of the channel’s “Shakespeare in Mzansi” strand.
She also starred as Tumi in the SABC2 soapie Muvhango and in an episode of the e.tv drama series eKasi: Our Stories in 2012.
Other television series she has acted in include Kgatelopele, Moshwela Tharing, Old Grand Hotel, The Burning Issue, Generations, Body Kids, and Soul City
Shoki has also appeared in a number of theatre plays, including Ancient Stars at the Giant Theatre, Space Odyssey at the Grahamstown Festival, The Pen at The Market Theatre, and Gogo’s Groove at the Aardklop Festival.
Despite being a force to be reckoned with in the industry, Shoki has yet to be recognized for her efforts. If it’s any consolation, she received a Golden Horn Award nomination for Best Actress in a Lead Role in a TV Drama. She was also nominated for Best Actress at the SAFTAs in 2021.
Shoki is a translator, language counselor, dubbing producer, and casting director for the children’s television series Takalani Sesame and the e.tv soapie Rhythm City, in addition to being an actress.
Shoki married fellow actor and producer Sello Sebotsane, with whom he has a daughter, Oratile Kutlwano. Unfortunately, their marriage dissolved due to charges of violence.
In 2018, Shoki was strangled twice, punched several times in the face and in the body by her ex husband, and she sustained injuries to her face, stomach and legs. Later Sebotsane was charged with domestic violence and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
She recently made headlines after sharing sexy bikini pictures of herself on Instagram. As much as so many people dragged her for such pictures, Shoki is still serving those body goals and ain’t nothing stopping her.
