Following the cancellation of two concerts, Afro-pop sensation Kelly Khumalo is booked at two new events to replace the two she lost.
Kelly Khumalo revealed on social media that she will be playing at the Rusty Rocks All For Women music festival as well as the Women’s Day Soul Therapy Picnic Celebration. This comes after the Afro-pop sensation was canceled from two consecutive gigs earlier this week.
The “Empini” hitmaker was scheduled to perform at the Tribute To Women concert alongside Mafikizolo, Sjava, and Amanda Black, among others. Tribute To Women opted to drop Kelly from their lineup earlier this week. The organizers issued a statement to inform everyone, citing fears for their patrons’ safety.
“In the interest of safeguarding our festival, management has taken the decision to relieve Ms. Khumalo of her obligations to perform at our festival this year to afford her and her team the time they require to deal with the issues emanating from the current court proceedings”. Kelly was also scheduled to serenade and delight audiences at the Maseru Jazz Festival on September 24th. That appearance was also canceled, with the organizers admitting that, while the singer is presumed innocent until proven guilty, she will not be performing at the event.
“As Maseru Park we here to inform you that we have seen comments on social media about one of our guests’ performers which came to our attention that we need to inform our public and society that we are putting Kelly Khumalo on hold.” Read the press release
These cancellations follow a string of negative remarks on social media concerning the star’s presence on the aforementioned programmes. All of these issues are connected to the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa trial.
Despite all obstacles, Khumalo’s name remains powerful. On August 5th, she will play at the Women’s Day Soul Therapy Picnic Celebration. And return to the stage on the 12th at Rusty Rocks All For Women, replacing the two events she has missed.
The strong vocalist’s admirers were overjoyed to learn of this development, and they promised to turn out in force to demonstrate their unwavering support.
