It’s been a while since media star Khanyi Mbau bleached her skin, but some Twitter users still can’t get rid of it.
The celebrity is no stranger to trolls, and Thursday morning was no exception.
Hundreds of Twitter users reacted to how Khanyi looked (skin tone) in an earlier interview with broadcaster Debora Patta.
Khanyi responded to remarks regarding her decision to lighten her complexion in July 2020, advising ladies to be comfortable in their own skin.
Khanyi advised women to adopt whatever beauty regime they preferred, noting that being black was a way of being.
“Being black doesn’t mean you have to look black. Being black is a state of being. Being black is a sense of spirit. Being black is a sense of how you think and how you see yourself but it doesn’t mean you have to look indigenous. Why are we living in a world that won’t allow us to explore and be who we want to be?
“They may not be as honest and open as I am. Ninety percent of your celebrities lighten their skin. It is part of the game. Remember our game is different to your game … it is a culture. It is how we play. We don’t want to look ordinary because we do not live an ordinary lifestyle,” she said.
Khanyi acknowledged to TshisaLIVE that her most recent cosmetic surgery cost her R95,000 in 2017.
She underwent a waist reduction operation, liposuction, and breast augmentation.
Khanyi has also warned detractors where to go. “I’m not afraid to be black; I’m very black, but I’m the free black.” The freed and liberated black. “The one who, regardless of what others say, does what I want to do.”
