News broke today about Sphamandla Mabonga, you might remember him as Londie London’s ex (the reality star and singer? Yeah, her). Apparently, he was killed in a shootout at 24 Central, right outside Solo nightclub in Sandton. Sandton, of all places! You’d think that area would be a little…safer, you know? But nope, tragedy can strike anywhere.
According to reports, the whole thing went down on March 6th, 2025 (yeah, we’re jumping ahead a bit!). Mabonga was rushed to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t make it.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed the whole shebang, saying they’re investigating a case of murder and attempted murder. And get this, it wasn’t just Mabonga who died. The whole situation sounds like absolute chaos. Apparently, three people are dead and four others are injured. Yikes.
So, what the heck happened?
The police are saying that a man with a gun (presumably Mabonga) wanted to enter the restaurant. Now, this particular restaurant has a no-firearm policy (which, fair enough, I guess). Things escalated, as they often do when guns are involved, and a shootout ensued between the man’s bodyguards and the club’s security.

Two bodyguards died at the scene. That’s just…awful. Imagine going to work, protecting someone, and that’s how it ends. Five other people were hit: Mabonga himself, two innocent patrons (can you imagine being out for a night and ending up in a crossfire?!), a CPF member (Community Police Forum, for those not in the know), and a security guard. Everyone was rushed to the hospital, but as we know, Mabonga succumbed to his injuries.
The police are saying that the guy who started the whole thing (again, allegedly Mabonga) had a record. Apparently, he was arrested last year for another shooting in Sandton. We’ll get to that in a bit.
Mabonga: A Troubled Past
This isn’t the first time Mabonga’s name has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Remember back in January 2024? He was shot in the ribs during a shootout at Tempo nightclub, also in Sandton! He was in the hospital for that one too. Seems like he was no stranger to violent altercations.
The reports from that incident said he got into an argument with another patron, and things went south fast. So, the guy clearly liked to party and was also prone to arguments that would lead to gun violence. Not a good combo.
Then, in March 2024, he was arrested for allegedly starting a fight with security guards at a club in Sunninghill. He was reportedly carrying a gun (again!), got turned away at the door, and decided to start shooting at the security guys. Seriously? What even goes through someone’s head?
But wait, there’s more! After his arrest in January 2024, it came out that he was being investigated for a whole bunch of other stuff, including allegedly assaulting a female journalist at Konka (a really popular, celeb-filled nightclub in Soweto) and for allegedly using fraudulent means to buy cars.
So, putting it all together, it paints a picture of a guy who, well, wasn’t exactly a model citizen.
What does this mean?
Honestly, this whole story is just incredibly sad. Regardless of Mabonga’s past, nobody deserves to die like that. And the fact that innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire is just heartbreaking. You know, you just wanna go out for a fun night with friends, not end up in a life-threatening situation.
It really makes you think about gun control, the prevalence of violence in our society, and the choices people make that lead them down these paths. And about how much access to guns people have and how readily people reach for them.
And what about Londie London? I can’t imagine how she’s feeling right now. Even though they were exes, that’s still a huge loss. My heart goes out to her and to all of Mabonga’s family and friends, and especially to the families of the other victims.
It’s also a stark reminder that money and status don’t shield you from tragedy. Sandton might be a fancy area, but it’s not immune to the violence that plagues our country.
The Investigation Continues
For now, the police investigation is ongoing. They’re trying to piece together exactly what happened and hopefully bring those responsible to justice (or, in Mabonga’s case, close the case). No one has been arrested yet, which is a bit concerning. Hopefully, they’ll be able to get to the bottom of this and provide some answers to the victims’ families.
This is definitely a story that will continue to develop. I’ll keep you updated as more information comes to light. In the meantime, let’s just take a moment to remember the victims and hope for a more peaceful future.
