Core Responsibilities
The Diesel Mechanic UG will maintain, install, and commission machinery and equipment to ensure operational efficiency in a mechanized underground mining environment. Key duties include:
- Leading safety meetings and participating in risk assessments to uphold stringent safety standards.
- Delegating tasks and managing breakdowns and emergencies to minimize downtime.
- Ensuring availability of materials, spares, and equipment for seamless operations.
- Providing on-the-job training and guidance to team members.
- Making informed decisions on component replacements to maintain equipment integrity.
- Documenting legal examination results and preparing detailed job cards for accurate record-keeping.
Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, candidates must have:
- Education: Minimum Grade 10 or Technical Trade Specific N2. Grade 12 or Technical Trade Specific N3 is preferred.
- Certification: Valid Diesel Mechanic competency certificate. Additional trade certificates are advantageous.
- Experience: At least 2 years as an artisan in a mechanized underground mine. Experience with SANDVIK LP and Fermel mediator equipment is a plus.
Skills and Additional Requirements
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- Willingness to work overtime, standby, and rotational shifts.
- Knowledge of risk assessment practices.
- Valid Code 08 driving license.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
