On Sunday, August 27, soapie fans took to social media to react to rumors that the SABC2 soapie ‘Muvhango’ would be ending.
South Africans and fans of the TshiVenda soap opera Muvhango reacted on social media to the news that the show would be ending shortly.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela took to Twitter on Sunday, August 27, to ask if the long-running SABC2 soap opera Muvhango is coming to an end?
“Is the sun setting on Muvhango? SABC Head of Video Entertainment Marketing assured media, last month at an event media launch, that there are no plans to cancel the show.”
“However, practically, with Duma Ka Ndlovu’s production company producing 3 telenovelas for Multichoice and now adding another one to replace Gomora, can they keep Muvhango going?”
“Rhythm World Productions produces telenovelas; Umkhokha, Sbongile & The Daminis as well as Komkhulu. Is Muvhango ending?” tweeted Mphela.
According to the Sunday World, Muvhango is another soapie that is rumoured to be getting dumped by the SABC. Muvhango which has been playing for more than two decades on SABC 2 has also been struggling with viewership for the past five years. Although the soapie is still number one on SABC 2, people have complained about the soapie losing its plot for the longest time, even though the show still has its loyal viewers throughout South Africa.
The show was a hit in the 90s when it’s still had The River’s creator; Phathu Makwarela as its head writer but went downhill when he left.
It has apparently become one of those boring shows for some people, but others still enjoy it. Should the rumours be true, it will leave most people jobless and stranded just like Isidingo_ The Need.
@john : ARG man, Muvhango is not willing to learn and improve its storyline, there’s no enough research being done in the writing room and that is seen with the what is being acted.
@Ntsako :Cancelation of Muvhango will prove my theory of having Fly-by-night content creators in this country,We so many social ills and I feel the show can elicit them……
@Lebzzza : It’s unfair that he has all these shows to himself, but in a practical sense, he can keep going. Him as an EP he delegates his duties. He just appoint people to carryon. Remember a soap is a just a well-oiled machine. Everyone does what they do to keep the show running.
@kingb_Bongz: “If it gets canceled, I won’t be shocked their story line is based on chieftains and witchcraft they need to move on from it try and do something different especially this thing of people coming back from the dead it’s boring.”
@Luie_Bee: “Muvhango and Generations should be sacked. I don’t understand why they are gatekeeping the 20:00 slot for Mfundi vundla. There should be soppie at 20:00 from other channels.”
@ShottaZee: “Multichoice shows lack longevity and numbers. Those three shows might be canceled by next year this time.”
