Uzalo actor Cebolenkosi Mthembu, who plays police officer Nyawo, claims he is not as stupid as the character he portrays on the show.
Cebolenkosi is well known for his character as a foolish cop who confounds audiences with his huge bombastic English vocabulary.
However, the actor claims that the English terms have caused him confusion in real life since fans want him to be his persona.
The actor says fans often stop him on the streets and request that he speak bombastic English words.
“Even if I do shopping, I get stopped by people.” They ask me to speak English while they laugh and take videos of me.”
Cebolenkosi claims that a few fans are unhappy when he does not talk in the manner of his character on Uzalo.
He expresses gratitude for the adoration since it demonstrates that he nails his role, but he also has a personal life and requests that people stop bothering him.
“I’m Cebolenkosi in public and not Nyawo; I have my own personal life, a very serious and focused one. I only speak big words and act dumb on Uzalo.”
He claims to be a family man and a radio host in real life. He also sings in the Cletmont Choir and works for a private firm. He begs them to believe that he is not as stupid, naive, or uninformed as Nyawo.
