Hold on to your bathongs! because you’ll need them.
This week, the broadcast conflict between MultiChoice and the SABC reached epic dimensions, with their feud hitting soapieville like the death of a loved character.
SABC has removed all of its soap operas from the DStv Stream Catch Up service. Uzalo, Muvhango, Skeem Saam, Generations: The Legacy, and 7de Laan are no longer available.
When you try to watch any of them on DStv Stream, you will see the following:
As the “Platforms Affected” insert indicates, they are no longer available on Catch Up on any device, including PVRs.

What happened to them? Of course, to SABC’s streaming service, SABC+.They’re also on VIU, but behind a slew of advertisements and some behind a Premium barrier, so it’ll be interesting to see how long they stay there.
Clearly, the SABC’s on a mission to keep them as exclusive as possible, and to be honest, they’re better on SABC+.
Every episode has the original broadcast date with it, which wasn’t on DStv Stream, and shows such as Uzalo stream in better quality.
The SABC’s outrageous behavior follows the Rugby World Cup brawl that started before the competition began.
How it ended: MultiChoice agreed to sub-license 16 of the matches to the SABC, but not on the SABC channels on OpenView, which means South Africans with just OpenView would be unable to view them. Instead, they’ve been burdened with less relevant sports programming. How things are going: SABC will not to allow MultiChoice to stream their soap operas.
