Tyla, a South African-born musician, has surpassed Master KG’s Spotify record for most monthly listeners for a South African artist.
Tyla’s track Water is South Africa’s highest charting song since Master KG’s Jerusalema.
Water, a global hit song, entered Spotify’s top 40 global playlist and has been streamed over 40 million times.
The 21-year-old’s song Water, which debuted at number 82 on the Apple Music US list, is now at number 65, ahead of SZA and Lil Baby.
Following her major break, musician Tyla Laura Seethal obtained a recording contract with Epic Records via a joint venture with Fax Records in the United States.
She made headlines in March when she attended Dolce and Gabanna’s catwalk show at Milan Fashion Week, where she bumped with Kim Kardashian.
Limpopo-born musician Master KG took to X to congratulate Tyla following reports that her hit song Water dethroned Jerusalema.
“She’s super talented. Congratulations Tyla,” said Master KG.
