After the SABC1 soapie ‘Skeem Saam’ attracted over 5 million viewers in July, soapie fans praised Hungani Ndlovu for his role as Tbose.
The latest numbers from the Broadcasting Research Council of South Africa’s (BRCSA) Television Audience Measurement (TAM) show that Skeem Saam is still the second-most-watched soapie on SABC1 after Uzalo, with over 5 million viewers.
BRCSA July 2023 figures also reveal that the educational soapie Skeem Saam, which scored 5 007 032 million viewers needed about 380 000 viewers to dethrone Uzalo on SABC1.
The Durban-based soapie is still the most-watched soapie in South Africa with 5 388 373 million viewers followed by e.tv’s soapie Scandal with 5 036 317 million viewers.
According to the July watching results, e.tv’s House of Zwide took fourth place with 4.4 million viewers, dethroning Generations: The Legacy, which received 4.1 million.
With 828 000 viewers, popular drama series Shaka Ilembe is the most-watched show on DStv, while Umkhokha: The Curse is currently the most-watched telenovela on DStv with 741 000 viewers.
On Wednesday, Soapie fans took to Jabulani Macdonald’s Twitter to congratulate Skeem Saam on reaching the 5 million milestone and to applaud actor Hungani, who joined the program in July to play Tbose Maputla.
