Senzo Meyiwa’s murder trial appears to be far from over, as new evidence has emerged.
Captain Mmampshedi Masetla, a senior forensic analyst who testified as a state witness on Monday, indicated that the DNA on the checkered hat found at the crime site excludes three of the suspects.
The top forensic analyst stated that he examined the DNA evidence gathered at the site, which did not match the accused.
The test was carried out after it was discovered that the checkered hat discovered on the crime scene after the occurrence belonged to one of the intruders and was left behind when they departed the scene following a failed robbery.
Some witnesses in the murder case made it known that the checkered hat on the crime scene belonged to one of the accused and was left behind as they fled.
However, according to senior forensic analyst Captain Masetla, the DNA has excluded the accused, leaving many trying to connect the dots on who killed Meyiwa.
The DNA tests appear to have isolated the accused from the claimed crime. The court heard, however, that the DNA evidence gave two profiles, implying that it may have been worn by two males or a man and a woman.
The forensic experts ruled out any connection between Mthokoziseni Maphisa, Fisokuhle Ntuli, and Muzikawukhulelwa Sibay and the hat found at the crime scene.
