The body of 14-year-old Grade 8 learner Endinako Dudu has been recovered following an extensive and emotional search operation after severe flooding struck the Makana Local Municipality area. Endinako, a learner at Mary Waters High School, was reported missing earlier this week after heavy rainfall battered Makhanda and surrounding neighbourhoods. Reports indicate that she had been walking home from school when she attempted to cross the swollen Kowie River. Tragically, strong currents overwhelmed her, leading to her disappearance.
The region experienced persistent downpours that resulted in rapidly rising water levels in rivers and streams.
