The producers of Uzalo, Stained Glass TV, have revealed why fan favorite actor Vuyo Dabula’s criminal character Bentley Majozi left the show.
Uzalo fans were upset and bewildered when fan favorite actor Vuyo Dabula’s character Bentley Majozi was killed after only a week on the show.
Uzalo publicist Nomfundo Zondi revealed to The South African on Tuesday, 24 October that the actor Vuyo Dabula was always cast for a short role.
Zondi rubbished reports that Dabula’s contract was cut short and added that he’s got a great relationship with Stained Glass TV, who are producers of the SABC1 soapie.
“Vuyo’s storyline was crafted to add drama and excitement to the storyline as we end off season nine. His story arc was designed to be brief but impactful.”
“Stained Glass productions has a great relationship with Vuyo. We are so honoured to have worked with one of South Africa’s greatest talents.”
An insider has alleged that Dabula, who played Gadaffi in Generations: The Legacy, left the show because of contractual disagreements with Stained Glass Productions, which produces the show.
According to the source, Dabula was supposed to leave Johannesburg and spend every day on set in Durban during filming. As a result, he demanded further compensation for his relocation to KwaZulu-Natal.
Vuyo wanted more money than they were willing to offer. Being in Uzalo long-term meant that he had to move to Durban and be on set every day for about 12 hours, so it wasn’t going to work for him.
