A video of Thuli Phongolo DJing behind the decks has fuelled rumours she is expecting her alleged abuser DJ Maphorisa’s baby.
When DJ and actress Thuli Phongolo posted a photo of just her face on Instagram last month, her admirers speculated if she was pregnant with her “boyfriend” DJ Maphorisa’s child.
However, the former Rockville actress sarcastically responded to the rumors at the time, stating that she was going to fire her beauty team for making her look pregnant.
“I think my edges are giving me the appearance of being pregnant, guys, but don’t worry, I’m firing the entire team for this blunder because I told them!” Anyway, THANK YOU for your support, people.”
Fans are certain Thuli is pregnant after seeing a video of her entertaining the crowd from behind the decks.
When controversial Twitter user @chrisexcel102 published a screenshot of the video, one tweep (@pmcafrica) contended that the angle from which the snapshot was taken was most likely what made her look pregnant. Many fans, though, were persuaded that she had a bun in the oven in the comments area.
“Nah she’s definitely pregnant. There’s no way she has that kind of mkhaba [potbelly],” @sewelankoana wrote.
“Very much pregnant,” @zethuankosi said.
While another tweep (@tsholofelotika3) argued that she would not be consuming alcohol if she was pregnant: “She probably just gained weight, she wouldn’t be drinking if she was pregnant.”
Last week, DJ Maphorisa – real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe – appeared in Randburg Magistrate’s Court, where he learned that the chief prosecutor had dismissed submissions he had made in an attempt to get the assault allegation against him dropped.
Thuli had filed an assault charge against him in May.
In a police statement, the former Generations: The Legacy actress said that Maphorisa became aggressive and hit her on the breast during an argument at her house. He is also accused of slapping her across the face.
“He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” the police statement read.
After spending a night in police custody, the Mnike hitmaker was granted R4 000 bail. In addition, the actress filed a withdrawal statement, however, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would investigate before withdrawing.
Maphorisa and Thuli issued a joint statement days following his release, stating that they will handle the situation quietly.
While it is unclear whether they are still together, a source told Zimoja that Maphorisa returned the Mercedes G-Wagon and Porsche that he had purchased for Thuli.
