Zahara hailed from a devout Christian household that staunchly upheld the beliefs of Christianity above all else. Nonetheless, as per a family member who prefers anonymity, Bulelwa ‘Zahara’ Mkutukana had embarked on the journey of becoming a sangoma. The talented Loliwe songstress passed away on 11th December 2023 following a period of illness that led to her hospitalization.
The insider revealed, “She had initiated the consultations and preliminary stages. Engaging in practices, receiving revelations, and having visions. Yet, she concealed this from her family due to their Christian convictions, which contradicted this path she was exploring. She confided in a select few, with her spouse being privy to this aspect, offering unwavering emotional, financial, and overall support.”
The family associate disclosed how Zahara attributed the challenges she faced in her life to postponing her divine vocation. “Endowed with a prophetic talent, she realized her hardships ensued from neglecting her true calling,” the individual remarked.
“Upon embracing her destiny and seeking guidance, a positive transformation began with Mpho (Xaba) standing by her side,” the source shared. “Much will be unraveled about Bulelwa’s journey, as she endured trials largely triggered by familial and interpersonal dynamics.”
Recently, Zahara’s siblings were forcefully evicted from her residence in Little Falls by law enforcement, as the property had been acquired by a new owner after their inability to meet financial obligations. “While the original deadline for relocation was set for September, the new proprietor extended their stay to facilitate the purchase. Regrettably, they couldn’t secure the funds, leading to their ejection last weekend.”
The informant corroborated the sale of Zahara’s belongings including most furniture to acquaintances. “Majority of the furnishings were vended to close contacts, whereas unsold items remained. Subsequently, they had to vacate the premises, relocating to the Eastern Cape. The eldest sister, Bandezwa, now resides in one of the auxiliary quarters with their parents.”
In response to inquiries, Zahara’s sister Bandezwa asserted their ignorance regarding the spiritual calling. “Bulewa undeniably possessed a gift, music being her inherent calling. We are unaware of any sangoma calling or alternative talents. Such beliefs are contrary to our convictions.”
