The Afrotainment recording studio owned by Mthokozisi “DJ Tira” Khathi was broken into and robbed on Wednesday, according to Times LIVE.
The award-winning DJ and producer revealed on Thursday that thieves stole expensive equipment, including studio monitors, keyboards, microphones, digital mixers, and hard drives, with music files that have not been released.”This is so heartbreaking,” he said
A reward of R20,000 has been offered to anyone who comes forward with information “that leads to the successful recovery of the studio equipment.”
“We have offered a reward of R20 000 to anyone who can help us get our equipment back or give us a lead. What we want more is hard drives that have the record label’s original music, original music copies of old music and unreleased new music; we need it back as soon as possible,” he said.
From Big Zulu to Makhadzi, Dladla Mshunqisi, and the Qwabe Twins, the studio has hosted a star-studded list of some of Durban’s finest artists, allowing them to craft records that have gone down in history and topped music charts.
Several Mzansi artistes urged the people to assist in regaining access to Afrotainment equipment.
The Afrotainment-affiliated Qwabe Twins posted on their Facebook page.
“Guys, someone broke in at Afro and stole all the equipment. Guys, all unreleased music is gone, and we are asking if you see someone selling studio equipment to contact us,” they said.
Rapper Duncan wrote, “Last night some people broke into the studio and stole everything with our work. If you see anyone selling it, please contact us,” he said.
