The loss of their close friend and co-star, Mpho Sebeng, deeply saddens actors Nthati Moshesh, Thuso Mbedu, and Kagiso Modupe. Tragically, the 31-year-old actor met an untimely death on May 5 in a devastating car crash in the North West.
The iconic actress Nthati Moshesh shared a touching picture of her and her late Ingoma co-star Mpho Sebeng, who played her son. She said, “I remember this scene so vividly. You reacted to my tears, and that made me cry even harder on Ingoma: The Song. If I’d known that this was one of my last hugs to you, I would have squeezed you tighter, young, beautiful, kind, loving, respectful man.”
Zimoja reports that Moshesh says Mpho had impeccable fashion sense. “And your fashion sense was out of this world. I used to praise you so much at every function. I hope I said, I love you and admire you enough.”
The fan-favourite actress also thanked the Sebengs for raising Mpho: “To the Sebeng (your beloved mum) family. We are at a loss for words. We share your sorrow and grief. Thank you for birthing this amazing soul. South Africa mourns with you. Our humblest and deepest sympathies. I love you, screen son. We will remember your craft, talent, and love of storytelling.”
Actress Thuso Mbedu, who had the pleasure of working with Mpho Sebeng in Saints and Sinners, took to Instagram on Monday to honour and remember the talented actor.
The duo, who shared a genuine friendship off-screen, brought life to the characters of Boni Khumalo and Nkosi, classmates in the popular TV show.Mbedu wrote a letter to convey her sorrow upon learning the news, expressing her disbelief. Thuso fondly reminisced about the moments they had shared.
“Having heard of Mpho’s passing, something in me short-circuited. What are the words that one is supposed to string together? Even now I’m seeing the posts and the changed profile pics, but my brain is refusing to accept why it’s happening. When I force myself to connect the dots, it feels like my heart slows down and I have to remind myself to breathe,” says Mbedu.
